By combining the fluidity and lightness learned thru my early years as a watercolorist with the ability of acrylics to be layered I have created a unique painting style. I layer thin washes of acrylic with as many as 15 to 20 layers of transparent paint in each piece. The light shimmering thru the many layers of color makes these complex paintings shimmer and glow.
My artistic process is an intuitive one. This can best be described as a stream of consciousness method from which comes inner landscapes. I have no preconceived ideas or plans when starting a painting. I don't use drawings, models or photographs. I begin a painting spontaneously, with color and texture but without a subject. I use many different techniques –sponges, pallet knives, spattering, collage and imprinting along with pouring layers of thinned colors onto the canvas. This creates a loose unstructured background and then I step back & look at it. I will keep layering transparent colors and textures to form a veil painting-a painting where you look through the layers like looking through water. I add layer after layer until suddenly there’s a completed painting.
I have been painting professionally for more than 30 years. My accomplishments include several one and two person shows and entry in numerous juried and invitational exhibits. My work is included nationally in over 200 public, private and corporate collections.
